Sheds of HOPE are dry storage sheds provided for free to families who have lost their homes to disasters such as hurricanes, fires, tornadoes, and floods. Sheds are built by volunteers and flat-packed. They are then delivered to a disaster site where they are set up to provide families with safe storage and to build bridges of ministry during recovery. As part of the Ministry to North America (MNA) Disaster Response, Sheds of HOPE works with numerous PCA churches throughout the southeast, including LOPC. Since 2017, our team of volunteers has completed over 140 sheds that have been delivered to families in GA, AL, SC, NC, VA, FL, LA, MS and TN.
FAQs
Do families have to pay for the sheds they receive?
Never. For families who have lost homes to disasters, sheds are constructed, shipped, assembled, and maintained for two years free of charge. The Sheds of HOPE teams are all unpaid volunteers. Sheds are financed through sponsoring churches, individual contributions, and fundraising.
How often does Sheds of HOPE meet at LOPC?
The team schedules several shed builds per year, including youth build dates when students in grades 6-12 are encouraged to join. During build weeks, volunteers usually prep and organize materials on the first day and then construct the sheds and flatpack them for transport on the remaining days. Shed builds usually take 3-4 days and run from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. Lunch is provided. Click here to download a 2024 build schedule.
Do volunteers have to commit to all the build days?
Join us for as much time as your schedule allows - half a day, a full day, or from start to finish.
Is church membership required to join the team?
Not at all! New faces are encouraged and welcome.
Do volunteers need carpentry or woodworking experience?
Those are always a plus but not required. On-site training is provided, and there are other ways to support Sheds of HOPE without actually picking up a tool. See below.
Are there other ways to partner with Sheds of HOPE?
Absolutely! If hospitality is your love language, our kitchen team would love to have extra hands to help prepare lunches. If you would like to donate toward the cost of shed materials, your contribution is tax-deductible. All gifts go toward the cost of construction. Checks should be made payable to LOPC and designate Sheds of HOPE in the memo line. Online giving is available through our secure website.
