The "Praying Hearts, Busy Hands" ministry had its organizational meeting January 28, 2008, with 16 women attending. It has since blossomed into a gathering of like-minded women who are dedicated to honor and serve our Lord and Savior by producing hand-made items such as knitted, crocheted, and quilted baby blankets, and prayer shawls for those in need of spiritual comfort knowing this article was created not only with our talents, but most importantly with our prayers for the recipient.

The LOPC "Praying Hearts, Busy Hands" ministry had suspended for the summer months, but reconvened on September 27, 2010. Co-leader Doris Bombich and Mary Ann Johnson report that there was a great turnout, and decisions were made for projects for the upcoming year. Gifts will continue to be delivered to the First Call Pregnancy Center in Greensboro such as booties, bonnets, and baby blankets.

This ministry will also be working with the LOPC Military Outreach Ministry (M.O.M.) by making warm hats for service men and women who are serving in Afghanistan. It is reported that winters are very cold, and these hats would be a welcome addition to wear under helmets.

Doris states "We start each meeting off with a devotional. Then we offer up prayer requests. When we start on a project, for instance a prayer shawl, we pray for the recipient when we pick the shawl up to begin work on it, and we pray for the recipient when we lay it down. Once a recipient asked "How long did it take to make this shawl?" When the response was "two weeks", the recipient replied "I can't believe you spent two weeks to do this for me. And I can't believe you offered up prayers for me also!"

Doris also states "Just coming to the meetings to watch what is going on is beneficial. As in "days of old" when there used to be quilting bees, just to fellowship and pray with your sisters in Christ is such an encouragement. It helps to "share one another's burdens"! Also, the group always appreciates new members, and can use more people who sew, knit, crochet, or make crafts (or would like to learn).
